Trigger Warnings are REAL

This woman I share an apartment with told me that her broken acrylic nail “triggered” her.

I then proceeded to say that I was offended by her use of that word, that when you use that word it should be meaningful and significant, that when you use that word it means you need emotional support and should probably leave the situation.

She proceeded to tell me that her broken nail was of significant distress to her and that I shouldn’t be allowed to tell her what causes her distress. I then listed all of the reasons I use trigger warnings,

-when AHS showed rape

-when a classmate pretended to jump on top of me in a sexual way

-when I go to the doctors and feel exposed or vulnerable

-when someone says rape victims deserve it

She continued on to say that nobody actually used it in that context and that she wasn’t actually offending anyone and would continue to disrespect and insult all of us that actually need to use trigger warnings.

Fuck you Bitch.

Rape

I’ve never been raped but I’m speaking on the behalf of the people who have. The voiceless. The beaten. The one who cry out into the darkness. Telling themselves they should have fought harder. The ones who blame themselves for a crime they could not stop. The ones who live with the constant reminder that they were a rape victim. Everybody knows how serious rape is. But they still make jokes they still laugh at people’s pain. They don’t understand the scars they can not see. They don’t understand the wounds that would never fully heal. Not many people understood. But the ones who did they stood to the side and try their best to keep there mouth shuts they didn’t want people to know about it. They tried to keep it quite. But they couldn’t keep it for long because eventually it broke them even more. They were shattered and it didn’t matter how much glue you used because in the end they would always be shattered. A broken toy. That’s all they were. But they never realized that they were better than that. They were warriors who survived. They survived the unthinkable. If you ever see a post about rape half of people the who saw it would shrug their shoulders and say shit happens. They would go on with there lives never thinking of anyone but themselves. Then you saw the other half. The people who saw the post and they opened old wounds. The memories they tried to repress but to no avail. It was all ways their like a tiny mosquito that you couldn’t seem to squash. It buzzes around your head until you can’t take it anymore. No one really understands those people. They were aliens. But the truth is rape victims are NOT aliens. They are people who experienced things you couldn’t ever dream of. They survived and some try to tell you there story. They try to call out for help but most are pushed down. Asked degrading questions and getting degrading comments. What were you wearing? You were asking for it. You are a slut. You are making it up. But their not. They just want to be heard but assholes don’t let them. They push them into a box and get treated like shit. Rape isn’t something to be taken lightly. It’s a hell you don’t want to endure. It’s a life you wouldn’t think was worth living. Rape can happen to anyone regardless of gender or skin color. It’s something that needs to be spoken for…..
