Film director Mahmood Farooqui convicted of rape
New Delhi, Aug 4: A Delhi court has found Mahmood Farooqui, director of ‘Peepli Live', guilty of raping an American woman and sentenced him to seven years in jail.
The police had accused Farooqui of raping a 35-year-old American woman, who was in India to conduct research for her doctoral thesis from Columbia University. Farooqui, however, denied the allegations, saying he was falsely implicated.
A chargesheet was filed against the filmmaker alleging he had raped the research scholar at his Sukhdev Vihar house in south Delhi on March 28.
