Conclusion
With this blog, I hope to have given any readers some insight on the problems with the judicial system, as well as the impact that hip-hop artists have had. Whether their song is a plea for reform or meant to reassure black communities that better days are coming, hip-hop artists have shown to be politically active by addressing social issues. I feel as though I would never have been able to make a blog like this without taking this class. This class has made me more politically aware of whats happening to black communities in the US. Being an avid hip-hop listener, I felt that artist releasing politically driven music tend not to have mainstream success on those songs. After taking this class and doing research for this project, I started to realize that a lot of songs that I enjoy and are mainstream have a politically message that I hadn’t noticed before. I also realized how important it is for hip-hop issues to talk about social issues. I feel as though hip-hop is one of the only pure forms of media that reveals the struggles of black Americans accurate. Being people who often come from impoverished black communities, hip-hop artists should be speaking up about the issues that people from these communities face. Hip-hop artists have so many listeners, that they need to take advantage of their status and fight for causes they believe in. All in all, this class has changed the kind of hip-hop fan I am, and I will always be grateful for that. I have learned that hip-hop is much deeper than being music, it’s history tells a story. Hip-hop is truly a voice for the people.
