Kel's parents, Daryl and Tatsuo have been together since their college years and have been married for 20 sim years. Their devotion to one another and their son, Kelvin has been their greatest strength.
After settling in San Sequoia, they took in Daryl's grandmother Raquel, to help raise Kel, as they both forged ahead in their careers.
DARYL- "Are you okay, Kel?"
KEL- "Yeah, it's just sad that now you and your dad start to have a relationship and then he dies. I can't believe he had all that money!"
DARYL - "I was thinking the same thing. I am glad though we made amends. Go over and check with Grams and make sure she is okay; I need to talk to your Uncle Chad."
DARYL: "Chad did you have any idea that dad had all that money?
CHAD: "No, not at all, and what little I thought he'd have it would go to Keisha. I certainly didn't think that you and I along with Raymond would get the bulk of his estate.."
DARYL - "Me either. All he left her was the house and his car. Keisha does not look very happy. I bet she will try and contest the will.
While Daryl becomes adjusted to college life and meeting new people, Raquel is adjusting to having a baby back in the house. Her Grandson, Chad’s son Ty, along with Chad and his wife Maren have moved back home with her. It seems as though she is enjoying it very much! Wow this makes Raquel and GREAT Grandmother!!
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into the end of the first semester. It seemed like forever as it was happening, but now that it was here, it seemed to have went by in a flash. Daryl talked through things with Jasper and things went back to how they were before they were boyfriends. Jasper and Chad buds, both antagonizing Daryl. But, it wasn’t they same. It just wasn’t the same at all.
DARYL- “Yeah grams were are coming home for Winterfest Break, we will be leaving here next Friday and staying for three days then going to Sulani for a few days before we head back here.”
RAQUEL- “Are you sure Daryl? When I talked to your brother the other day, he said he wasn’t coming home before leaving for Sulani. Your dad needs you both her to get fitted for the tuxedos before the wedding, you know that is coming up in June! And I spoke with Mrs. Wilson yesterday and she said Jasper told her the same thing, that he wasn’t coming home for Winterfest Break. What kind of children don’t come home for Winterfest!!??”
DARYL- “Grams, don’t worry We all will be home for Winterfest, don’t worry. Chad just told me yesterday he was looking forward to it. He said he needed to get away from here for a while. And was ready to see Newcrest again.”
RAQUEL- “I am concerned, Daryl. You would tell me if Chad was in trouble right? Mrs. Wilson said that Jasper was put on academic probation over at Foxbury, that his grades were way below acceptable levels and if he doesn’t bring them up by next semester he was going to be turned out. You know what that means! I know him and Chad spend a lot of time together, and she said that Jasper’s grades were failing because he got messed up with a wrong crowd and was drinking!! Now you know how that led to disaster with your father. I hope that Chad---
She went on and on, and Daryl knew where this was leading, Alcoholism is inherited and because their dad was one, they had a stronger chance that, they too would be. He continued to listen and finally was able to get a word in.
DARYL- “Grams, listen, I am not sure what is going on with Jasper, but I assure you if Chad was into trouble with his grades, or drinking like that I would know about it, Okay? So stop worrying.”
Frederick Pence and Keisha Wiseman were married in the Pence’s backyard October 31st. Daryl, Chad nor Raquel seemed to be real impressed.
Frederick and Keisha will be living in the home that Keisha shared with her brother down the street from Raquel.
Chad returned home, explaining to his father and Grandmother that he voluntarily withdrew from Britechester, as it just was not for him. He got a job at the police station with his father. He decided that he wanted to be a law enforcement officer and began classes to pursue that dream, and also enrolled in an AA class at the local YMCA.
After the wedding, Daryl set out for Sulani with Cal, his boyfriend, Milo, Tatsuo and Tat’s cousin, Peitro Hernandez, for Winterbreak.
RAQUEL- “You know Daryl, I just miss you boys so. And I worry about you both, but Chad is not as sure of himself as are you. You have always been the responsible one.”
DARYL- “Grams, We are 18 now, you did your job, now it is time for us to do ours. Chad is fine. He is going to class, I see him studying and he and Jasper a good buds again. I even think Chad my have a girl.”
RAQUEL- “Okay then, I will trust you, Daryl, I know Chad has always kind of looked out for you, it just may be time for you to look out for him.”
DARYL- “Again, Gram, I assure you we are fine. Give dad and whatever her name is our best and we sill see everyone in a few weeks.”
RAQUEL- “DARYL SCOTT PENCE!!! You know that type of language is not appropriate or acceptable in this house!!”
CHAD- “Yeah, Daryl Scott Pence, you should watch your mouth.”
RAQUEL- “And, Chad Frederick, don’t think I didn’t see your actions that provoked your brother!!”
DARYL- “Sorry Grams. I will just go upstairs to my room.”
RAQUEL- “I believe it is your brother that should receive an apology, not me Daryl. He was the one to whom you were yelling profanities.”
CHAD- “Yeah Daryl, I am the one that should receive an apology! Those words burnt my ears!”
DARYL- “Whatever, Chad. How about you do your homework that you should have done a week ago!?”
RAQUEL- “Chad, you have homework yet to do!? Son, do you want to turn out like your father!? Now, both of you over here, and get your homework completed.”
DARYL- “Mine is finished Gram.”
RAQUEL- “Fine, then help your brother do his.”
DARYL- I don’t know why I never said anything to you before now. Thanks Grams, you are the best”
FRED- “Said what to her before now, Daryl? Did you get into trouble at school or something. And where is dinner??”
RAQUEL- Fred, come over here and sit down. We are having a family meeting before dinner.”
FRED- “So what is this big family meeting about, and why is it holding up dinner?”
RAQUEL- “Seriously Fred? Is all you think about Food and TV and that stupid SWW?”
FRED- “Well that stupid SWW may have very well got me a date with Keisha Wiseman. She is the receptionist---
RAQUEL- “I know who she is Fred! That divorced girl that was caught cheating on her husband! Good luck with that, now listen to your son, he has something he wants to tell you.”
FRED- “This isn’t going to take long is it? I am starving. What are we having for dinner tonight anyway?”
DARYL- “Dad!! Stop, please. I just wanted to tell you and Grams something, so listen please.”
FRED- “All ears here son. All ears.”
DARYL- “Dad, I’m Gay.”
