Before & After Restoration: "Mormons Bog" (1851 First State), the first edition of The Book of Mormon in Dutch. This book was in pretty bad shape due to water damage, and gross stickiness. I managed to pull off lots of bits and bobs before getting to the actual cover, but it cleaned up nicely and I was able to give it back some years it would have lost had it been left in such a horrible state.👌🏼 #eidolonhouse #rarebooks #collectibles #antiquarianbooks #booklovers #igbooks #bookcollection #rarebookconservation

"The General Fast", 1776. Custom clamshell I made to protect a rare and special pamphlet printed by Robert Aitken (the printer who was first to print the Bible in the U.S). A day of fasting and prayer appointed by congress to strengthen and prepare the army for the Revolutionary War. The sermon was given by John Witherspoon (one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence); this is know as his most famous sermon. I wanted to give the leather a special and unique treatment, yet still period appropriate, so I did what I call a reverse speckle; a rather obscure historical treatment using traditional dyes and chemicals. I love marrying traditional techniques with the quality control of modern materials to create beautiful and archival clamshells and bindings.👌🏼 #eidolonhouse #rarebooks #collectibles #bookish #rarebookconservation history #ushistory #custommade #leatherwork #bookslover

Restored to a better condition than when it was originally bound, because materials used today are far more superior than materials used in the late 19th Century.
