Baker Creek A.K.A. rareseeds.com is run by some pretty shady fucks. In 2019 they invited Cliven Bundy to present at their spring festive. Who's Cliven Bundy? He's that guy who decided to hole up with some armed disciples instead of paying the federal gov't for grazing rights on federal land. Here's a link to the Vox explainer from 2014. He's also said some pretty racist stuff about black people and slavery which is in the above article.

They did dis-invite him after enough people pointed out he was a horrible dude but issued an extremely non-apology about it. Link to a seed-blogger with the non-apology inside.

In any case, I'm just mentioning this here so people know not to buy heirloom seeds from Baker Creek, since the name wandered across my dash recently. There's some folk who just don't know, and that's fine! Now they do.

I don't have better places to buy seeds at my finger tips - but maybe check the next link down in the search for 'heirloom seeds' when everybody is ordering seeds next year!

My seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds came in

Purple Basil, marjoram, balloon flower, two varieties of extremely cute pansies, Boston Pickling Cucimbers, 4 types of squash (Zucchini Nimba is apparently a POLISH Heirloom variety? Whaaat?) The Long White of Palermo zucchini looks neat. Portola a (Moss Rose) seeds bc they're extremely awesome for surviving here. Black Strawberry Tomato - so next year we should have the Malinowki, the yellow tomatoes, and these dark colored tomatoes. Anand a variety of alpine strawberry bc I want to build a....thingy...for our current wild strawberries and add these to the roster.

I also got a neat grow light to start seeds in late winter. I'm going to try it out now by growing some marjoram indoors, we'll see.

My order from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds came in Friday.  My wife thinks it ridiculous that a man who gets excited about almost nothing gets excited about seeds.    I had to stop at Growing Indoors and get some starting medium.  I have never started in rock wool before but have heard and seen people who have great success with it.   We will see what happens.  

I want to start everything but learned my lesson in regards to that a couple years ago.   I refrained and only put in a handful of shishito plants, mostly because I have never planted this pepper before and don’t know what to expect and am hoping to get six of these plants in my DWC tray system.  

I also am trying to start some strawberry seeds for the back yard. Again not sure what to expect as far as germination times and success rates.

Also we ordered 50 5gallon grow bags and some Pineapple Sage seeds from ebay and picked up a bunch of pots, buckets, white onion bulbs, white seed potatoes, and lemon basil, pinkeye purple hull peas, + common chives seeds at local stores while running around yesterday. Still have to get a bunch of wood, but the next two weeks will be building small risers+trellis for the container garden and a table/bed/supports for the grow bags and to hang buckets for potato growing. Very excited!!! I'll  be sure to be posting tons of shtuffage as I go. This is awesome!!!
