Rat Jacket, Street Sects (2017)

Street Sects take a slower stylistic path on Rat Jacket than their previous material, straying into other more progressive genres. There is less noise, and more intentionally simplistic but insightful musicality on these tracks.

This EP of only four songs shows ambition too – the final track spreading to over seven minutes – with the duo having a post-punk feel at times. Rat Jacket continues Street Sects’ success streak of impressive sample-based noise rock records – a seamless collection of tracks that grate with their harshness, but also have moments of stomping memorability. ‘Early Release’ notable has a post-punk feel akin to Total Control’s 2015 track ‘Flesh War’.

Rat Jacket is a change in direction for Street Sects, showing a slower side to their sound that hints towards how they could potentially pace a full-length album.
