This is one of those games that has disturbing themes but is also hard to talk about without spoiling anything. Fortunately, the store page has lists of spoiler-free and detailed CW's, so consider giving them a read beforehand. It's very good. You will cry.

Happy Wednesday! This week's Ratkingrec is Canvas of Kings by MightofMe. Canvas of Kings is a map-making tool that mixes a lovely hand-drawn art style with an easy-to-use toolset.

You can control tons of different elements, allowing you to create a whole host of different scenes and moods. At the moment it features intuitive path and plot-making tools, water, depth adjustment, lighting changes, weather, and more!

Hi everyone! This week's (slightly belated) #RatKingRec is Death of a Wish, the new stylish action-rpg from @melessthanthree. Take the role of Christian as he and his allies undergo a surreal battle to dethrone the cult that raised him and liberate the world of Neo-Sanctum.

We love the sketchy neon aesthetic, evoking the color palette of the ZX Spectrum, which lend it a dream-like quality as vivid splashes of color clash with deep black backgrounds. It also cleverly encourages combat variety to keep things feeling fresh throughout it's runtime.

Tonight's #RatKingRec is a high speed psychedelic horde shooter called Primordial Pain, by @malitschek

It's got the same addictive loop as Devil Daggers, but with a new coat of glowing rainbow paint and a shiny new set of vertical mechanics.

If you're familiar with DD you'll feel at home with the weapon, which uses a familiar tap / hold mechanic, but this game trades DD's wide but flat arena for a much more constrained playspace that forces players to superjump, airdash, and stomp to avoid the onslaught of enemies.

Primordial Pain is available now on Steam for $5. Leave them a review if you buy it - they're currently under the 10-review threshold, and this game deserves much more attention than it's gotten!

This week's #RatKingRec is Unpaid Serenade for Future Solution Group [2026 eCon Grief/Heartbreak Singalong Nightmare/Archive] by @SandGardeners

. It's a five-minute simulation of an anxiety dream - surreal and unreasonable, with fears mixing together in a colorful haze.

The actual "Unpaid Serenade" takes the form of an impossibly difficult typing game. If you fail to type a line of your song in time, your character will stutter and mess it up. If you've ever had a nightmare about public speaking, this is basically a perfect recreation of it.

This week's #RatKingRec is a big release, but we recommend checking out Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, a new game by several Suikoden series alumni and the late Yoshitaka Murayama (RIP). Follow dozens of unique characters through globe-spanning intrigue! Nowa, a young man from the remote countryside, joins the local League of Nations watch on a joint expedition to nearby ruins; the Galdean Empire seeks powerful rune-lenses to amplify their magical technology. Will this lead to mutual benefit, or will darker ambitions reign… We really love the mixed media approach to visuals, deep formation-based strategy, and assortment of diverse characters and gameplay modes! If you've ever enjoyed a Suikoden game you'll be sure to love it!

Happy Friday! This week's Rat King Rec is Homewind by Adi Zhavo. Homewind is a relaxing city-builder puzzle game where scoring is based on proximity.

The game features gorgeous art and music, and has over one hundred levels that you can play for free! It also boasts a sandbox mode, which you can use to design your own cities without the constraints of adhering to specific scoring conditions :D
