There is a limit even to my capacity for poop jokes.

Actually this reminds me, as some other passages have, of going to the seaside with my grandmother as a teenager. I was there to fetch and carry for her and her sister in law, and in the mornings I'd get up and go down to the beach, then bring them pastries for breakfast. They'd be out on the porch people-watching and discussing one of three things: the comparative values of their various medications, the sins and virtues of dead people they had known, or the perilous states of their digestive functions. They would have made a pair of cracking Amoraim.
