Sophie made her way down the street, carefully avoiding people as she moved as her eyes scanned the pages. It was easy, even in the crowded city like the Hive, to move around people as she occupied her mind with the book’s contents. The only problem was she kept her attention mainly on the location of bodies of other people and not necessarily what they may be doing with their limbs.
Which led to the inevitable collisions, of course. She dodged between two people, one of which was swinging their arm around while they spoke. It hit her and knocked her off balance.
“Hey--” she called out, ready to demand apology before colliding with someone else. Quickly, she planted her feet on the ground and moved to grab the other’s arm to keep from falling as well. At the very least, she wanted to make sure the other wouldn’t be further inconvenienced by this incident.
“Sorry, about that,” she said, wincing as she held the book to her chest. She surveyed the one she collided with and immediately felt her cheeks burn with embarrassment. “I hope my book didn’t jab you in our collision. A hardcover makes for terrible bruises.”
