Aww thank you two so much! <3
It just gets hard having to feel so inadequate around people, even if they're ones you love.
Yeah, I was wondering if I should start old school and move up to the new Doctor or do the opposite. Thank you! :) It's been on for so long! lol Idk how I haven't seen any episodes yet. I'm excited to start watching!
Well, keep in mind that the first episode aired in 1963 and the last of the first run ended in 1989. So, that's 27 years to catch up on if you want to do it that way. And that's not counting the almost 6 years of the new series. The way they did the new show made it so you don't NEED those first 27 years, however; you can just jump in and you'll be fine.
There are some references, but they aren't vague and they always explain themselves. If you're just getting into it and are wanting to catch up to the new season, just start watching from the 9th incarnation (the 1st season of the new show) and go from there. You can always go back to the older shows later.
Also, the older shows are a different experience- they're a little slower-paced and aren't as action-oriented. Then there's the whole "they kind of made up the Dr Who Universe as they went along" thing- a lot of what we see now wouldn't really be recognizable then. It's worth watching, but don't think you need to see them before you get into the new stuff.
All THAT said, I wouldn't suggest sitting down and watching the latest episode that comes on next week because you'll be out of the loop; but if you watch the previous seasons, you'll be fine. :)
