Essential Oils - Ravensara
Ravensara essential oil has quite the medicinal smell. You know it is beneficial from just one whiff. While it’s great to use when you’re sick, this essential oil is also wonderful for sore muscles and joints. The fruit, leaves and bark of the ravensara plant are all used as a spice in Madagascar, where it’s considered a “cure all.”
Name of Oil: Ravensara
Latin Name: Ravensara aromatica
Areas of Origin: Australia, Madagascar, Tasmania
Historical Use: It was used for healing by the Egyptians and found in pharmaceutical texts in Greece, Rome and the Middle Ages.
General Growth, Habitat: An evergreen tree which can grow to 98’ tall and over 3’ in diameter. The leaves are a dark, shiny green, with the underside being dotted in oil glands. The flowers have six petals, yellow-green in color.
Scent: Medicinal, eucalyptus-like, camphorous, fruity
Uses: Joint/muscular aches and pain, colds, loosens phlegm, respiratory infections, good for fungal infections.
Emotional Use: Calming
Safety: Avoid during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
Extra Tidbits:
Add 1 drop of the essential oil to 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil and massage into aching joints and muscles
Add 1 drop of the essential oil to 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil and massage onto the chest to help relieve colds and ease respiratory infections
