Allow me to elaborate.
Malleus' fae form is his CHOSEN form. It would make sense that he would resemble his incredibly powerful mother in both dragon and fae form, but he chooses what sort of traits are present (we know that as he can hide his tail using magic). But do you think that Malleus wouldn't be proud to show off any features of his dad? Of course he would be delighted, that is if he knew how Raverne looks like and didn't go looking for the milk amidst the conflict between fae and humans.
His dad isn't in his life, so it would make sense that he wouldn't have a way to compare. He can't import the features onto himself without the basis. Malleus sticks to what he knows, which is his maternal side of the family, alongside the duties and responsibilities which come with it.
He doesn't know how his father looks like, how he acts and what he is like, which is why its impossible for the young fae to imagine himself inheriting anything from his dad. He chose the form, he actively chose to resemble Maleanor.
Do you believe the thorn fairy would have any portraits of her son-in-law anywhere near her home? Raverne left Meleanor amidst the scariest conflict, to fend for herself and their unhatched son. The war could have easily ended with Malleus dying as well if it wasn't for Lilia.
This isn't about 'wow, where are his dad's genes!', but its more of a 'he doesn't resemble his dad because he doesn't know how Raverne looks like'.
