why does the last ship kill so many women?
I’d like to say I have no clue but my theory is that the writers are misogynists…They write in female characters only to kill them off to move the plot or motivate a male character.
Season 1:Then there was Gibson; who was more of a plot device as ‘hey’ not everyone can survive the human trials of the vaccine and yet they hadn’t covered all the demographics as there were no asians or african american young male character or older female character in that tent. Not that I wished any character to die but she just died to push the episode into crisis mode.
Season 2:Ravit killed off and suddenly Burk is on the warpath of hating American civilians and happy to gun them down cause they ‘drew first blood’.
Rachel killed off because they want to make Rios have a more prominent role as he has her notes and is a doctor who played lab assistant to her.. I feel like screaming because he’s basically a GP (he’s couldn’t perform surgery) so he knows nothing about making vaccines or studying a virus like Rachel who spent probably over two decades of her life studying and gaining experience in her field of science. I think it’s really insulting and they wanted give Tom the ‘challenge’ of living in a world without her’…article here
Season 3:So far…Val has died and what happens after her death. Wolf loses his mind and decides he’s going to get revenge for her. What I find amazing is that when he loses Ravit he’s sad but he’s also calm and all about moving forward as that’s all he can do and she was a 'sister’ to him. While Val, he wants to go rip people to shreds.. I felt it was very OOC for him.
Plus I don’t believe for a second Val and Wolf had a romantic entanglement in the 5 months between the the two seasons as I felt she had more chemistry with Alisha. But I think the writers aren’t comfortable with homosexuality on the show as they had a golden opportunity to have Alisha and Val as a couple. They also made Jesse and Sasha have that same chemistry but nooo Sasha is meant for Tom. Yet the Tom and Sasha have zero sexual chemistry (I’m not a huge tomchel person. I’m just being honest.)
So my prediction for the rest of the season will be that either Jesse or Sasha (probably both) will die…If Sasha dies then it will propel Tom’s character into revenge mode and it’ll be annoying and cliche (boring)… not to mention he’d be the most cursed male character on the show as all his lady loves thus far have died.
Sometimes I’m so utterly done with Last Ship but other days I like it. I’m very mixed up in how I feel about it. I also think season 3 is a totally different show from what we’ve come to love. But I hope it returns to it’s roots as the first season was amazing!
