RIP Dixie's Ultimate Fighter "Liddell"... Dell to his friends. I miss you.
Ug! Just lost my post with some idiot about feeding pets raw diets. All their "sources" were out dated and incomplete. It really pisses me off when they try to justify stupidity and ignorace. The internet is not a veterianrian and shouldnt be used like one. If you have questions about food for your animal, speak to an animal nutritionist!
Hey there. So I tried to convince my dad that feeding our dogs raw meat is a good idea but he just rolled his eyes, pretty much said I didn't know what I was talking about, said everyone can post anything on the internet, and he refuses to read any sources I send him. Should I just give up? :C
I’m used to having a stubborn father who won’t budge on his ideas regardless of how much indisputable proof you throw at him. Does this sound like your father? If so, you might be out of luck. If he is only skeptical because it is the internet, there are also tree-killing sources arguing for raw-feeding.
Paleo Dog
Raw Meaty Bones
Real Food for Dogs
I’m far from the expert and new to it myself. I recommend talking to raw-fed-pets. They are always happy to guide us n00bs. Some vets recommend supplementing kibble-fed dogs with raw meaty bones to improve dental health, at least. I’m not sure what raw-fed-pets thinks about that because you have to be careful mixing any kibble and raw meat in a dog’s diet.
Anywho, if your dad has any logical-thought processes to exploit, do your best. Really, dogs have been eating raw their entire existence. Kibble has only been popular for some decades. The burden of proof that raw is unsuitable is on the kibble companies. They are the new-comers proposing their diet is superior to the diet your dogs EVOLVED TO EAT.
Good luck, nonny.
Puppy update
Took Cain to the vet yesterday for a recheck on his demodetic mange. He got his third shot to keep it under control. The vet was very pleased with his progress, as he has no active spots and all the old ones have new fur growing in. I believe the raw diet has a lot to do with it. Cain has gained 3 pounds since last week, but still has that slim puppy look. He currently eats 2 chicken backs a day along with Pitcairn ' healthy powder, 1000 iu vitamin C and 1200mgs of fish oil. Every third meal is a veggie meal with plenty of leafy greens and yogurt. A by product of this is the fact my 10 year old boxer, who has arthritis, has more energy and is off his pain meds. Life is good!
Vet check for Cain
Today was our first recheck for Cain. He has demodetic mange. He's looking really good with a lot of new fur growth and what appears to be one active spot left. The little porker weights 33.9 pounds. That's a 3 lb gain since last week. For treatment I'm supplementing with Pitcairn ' healthy powder and 50 in of vitamin C a day. Cain is an active little guy who has earned the nickname 'Parkour Puppy'
Yogurt
Making homemade yogurt for myself and the furkids. I love the fact I know exactly what's in it and it's Uber cheaper than store bought!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAYING THAT. "Lets kill this animal because we dont want to kill this one" what kind of logic was that?
Hi Anon!
It doesn't make much sense. It's something that we as rehabilitators have to deal with a lot- the true face of nature. Things eat things.
It comes down, as I said, to this: can you give this animal the care it needs and deserves for the entirety of it's natural life? Yes? Fantastic! No? I'm sorry, this animal is not for you.
Cheers,-tT
