the admission is soft to her ears. kindles a familiar breed of melancholia, reawakens that wretched emotion to the degree in which it suddenly lodges deep in her throat, a bristly spherule forbidding any surfacing of a response on her end — albeit temporarily, but still a perceptible catch to their current exchange. it traipses unsteady terrain, shadow and uncertainty present amid every alcove of consideration, an initial look of disbelief feverish against the skin, unsullied by the glaring contrast she bears victim to when under the sweltering spotlight of nameless eyes and whispers of those that know nothing of her, and she them.
but she manages a smile, faint as it is just as genuine, if not to a fault. heaves at the lips in war, tugs the stretch of flesh that ultimately flounders at the weight of their shared reality. the obstruction in her throat cools, and finally is she able to swallow her blooming dejection. “ That’s where you’re wrong.
