Disney Raya and the Last Dragon art - Lands of Kumandra clothing redesign
I redesign the traditional clothing to represent that each of the five lands of Kumandra are based on in the Raya movie. Since Raya is the latest Disney Princess movie which takes place in ancient Southeast Asia remember while watching this movie, you’ll find the Southeast Asia Story Trust team in the credits. Let’s go explore Kumandra.
Fang - Fang’s kebaya is embroidered with power and gold and red with the feline designs symbolizing Fang’s passion and training and owning cats and is militaristic. It is inspired from the Indonesian kebaya and hence Fang is inspired and is literally Indonesia.
Heart - Heart’s kebaya is embroidered with water and life and dragon details with blues and greens symbolizing Heart’s relationship to dragons and water and life and is very prosperous and peaceful. With rain details as Kumandra’s water dragons are bringers of life, rain, water and peace in all of Kumandra. It is inspired from the Malaysian kebaya and hence Heart is inspired and is literally Malaysia (Malaya during the ancient times)
Spine - Spine’s traditional dress is a combination of mostly Vietnamese culture influence and the Water Tribe details of the Avatar Universe. It is mostly inspired from the Vietnamese dress and hence Spine is inspired and is literally Vietnam (mostly the northern region)
Talon - Talon’s traditional dress is colored in purples and greens and is colorful. Hence Talon is the crossroads of the five kingdoms of Kumandra. It is inspired from the Thai traditional dress and Talon is inspired and is literally Thailand because of the floating markets and night markets and lively vibe.
Tail - Tail’s traditional dress is desert themed, hence Tail is a desert region in Kumandra. People of Tail tend to survive in the harsh desert climate. It is inspired from the Laotian traditional dress. Hence Tail is inspired and is literally Laos, one of the landlocked countries in Southeast Asia.
Bonus: Now there is only 8 other witches left to kiss…
Celebrating the start of pride with Ahawi getting loved on <3 It's hard being the main character cause you're so shippable with everyone
This also aligns with the canadian national indigenous history month, so consider learning some native history (like cherokee cause Ahawi is cherokee) or/and donate to the NDN Collective ! [On DeviantART] [Carrd 🃏]
