Childhood memories pt. 1

Happy Eid Mubarak y'all! Same as years before, i didn't go to dad's hometown anymore nor family gathering as usual. Eid Mubarak nowadays feels empty for me, for us.

Do you feel the same thing when your grandma or grandpa has passed away, there will be no longer family gathering like before? My grandpa or grandma already passed away over 7 years. No more pulang kampung.

This 2023 Eid Mubarak, I only watched over TikTok how people celebrate this holy-victorious day for Moslems with their family in their hometown. I'm jealous. Seeing how they're could hug, eat, and gather with the entire family member.

HOW DO I MISS PULANG KAMPUNG

My very last pulang kampung was to Kuningan in 2009, before grandpa passed away. I remember how my dad would rearrange the car's seat, to make it comfy for us. Bought so many snacks for the trip, packing clothes and stuffs, and lastly drank a cup of hot sweet tea after shubuh prayer before we off.

We always chose that Sumedang road (idk what name it is) as the shortcut to Kuningan, then went to our special rest area across that gold yellowish with luxury fence restaurant. Even tho we only ordered a bowl of Indomie Ayam Bawang with Fruit Tea drink. I really love to take a rest at this quiet cafe which has rice field, swimming pool view that seen from upstairs.

THE SMALL ALLEY TO LATE ABAH AMIR'S HOME

After 6 hours on the road, we finally arrived in Kuningan city. I could see few row of rice fields, those small water flows, also beautiful scenery of Cereme mountain.

Our family usually stayed at grandpa / Abah Amir's home, inside a small alley but full of memories. I still remember there will be some used-big Opak cans in the kitchen (filled with opak or white crackers), old kitchen and cutleries, warm air. Oh, don't forget with those special Eid Mubarak's cookies made by his second child, Uwak Titin she always made old school cookies such as semperit susu, dried agar, and that vermicelli-based cookie. Unique.

I could see happiness inside my dad's eyes when he hugged his father.
