Songs of the Year - Rayon Beach - Jacuzzi Limo Explosion
I have to admit that part of the allure of checking out Rayon Beach was the album artwork for This Is Serious which features a still from an episode of Family Ties in which Steve Keaton discovers Alex P. Keaton's drug problem. Where Jessie Spannow was so scared, Alex offers to paint his parents' room while they are sleeping. Uppers are crazy and the canned audience seems to think no-doz is hilarious.
Truth be told though, I'll check out anything Chicago's very own Hozac Records puts out and that was the REAL reason I gave these guys a go. I've been heavy on the garage rock this year, and Hozac has an impressive roster of talent to fit the ill. Jacuzzi Limo Explosion doesn't just give you a vivid visual , but it's a kinetic masterpiece filled with lots of fuzz. It seems weird to use the word masterpiece nh such an unsophisticated sound but it is apt. This song rules. -a
