its my baby's gotcha day 🥺 two years ago last night i asked my bf and brother if they wanted to go adopt a dog for our new apartment, not thinking they'd agree so fast, but literally the next morning we were at the shelter

i'd seen a post on the shelter's facebook about some puppies they'd taken from a hoarding case but when we showed up they were all gone and all the dogs on display were too big for our apartment. we left to sit in the car, and i looked up some other nearby shelters to see if any of them had smaller dogs, but none of them jumped out at me. we decided to go back inside to take another look just as four dogs were put out onto the floor for the first time - all rat terriers, a dad and his three sons. they'd all just been transferred from another shelter where they'd been living for a whole year.

we were gonna take out one of the sons for a test walk, but when we asked the staff they said they had to take them to get their picures taken for the website first. the son we were looking at walked right by us to get his photo taken, but the dad (who was 4 yrs old) jumped up and grabbed my leg.

i immediately burst into tears and the rest is history. forrest is 6 years old now and i feel just so lucky to have him in my life.
