HEADCANON + why did he choose the name leia?

i want to first mention that in the rots novel we this: her smile was as radiant as tatooine's primary as she took his flesh hand and pressed it to the soft fullness of her belly. "he keeps kicking." [...] "he?" anakin asked mildly. "i thought you'd ordered your medical droid to not spoil the surprise." [...] "oh, i didn't get this from the emdee. it's my ..." her smile went softly sly. "...motherly intuition." he felt a sudden pulse against his palm and laughed. "motherly intuition, huh? with a kick that hard? definitely a girl." before returning to coruscant, anakin has been away at war for five months. he only learns of the pregnancy upon his return and it isn't clear how far along she is exactly. all we know is that she gives birth to the twins early.

why do i bring all of this up? anakin had a very short time with padme to consider names with her. between the two of them, she had more time to consider baby names and toss them at anakin to see what he would think. all that to say, anakin had a say in baby girl names ( as he assumed they were having a daughter ), and knowing the type of person he was, he wanted his mother's name to be honored; however, that would be a risk. so, anakin had to consider other names.

considering anakin was under a great deal of stress before turning to the dark side, the only way i can see him considering a name and mentioning it to padme is through him using the force. similar to how the sith use the force for sith names ( as sidious did with vader ) but instead he was not given the exact name. i believe the force whispered to him a number of different names and he gave a handful of them to padme to think on. from then on, he assumed after he figured out how to save her, they would have time to pick one together.

his expression is fond as he goes over the note left beside him at some point during his meditations, the handwriting familiar and telling enough without the content within to clue him in as to the author. chuckling softly, Luke found something to write with and made his own little addition below the original note. later, he would leave it lying on the girl's bed for her to find at curfew.

dear not Jaina,

it's impossible for me to have a favorite niece, considering that you are my only niece. however, for the sake of the hypotheticals i know you'll bring up, yes. you are my favorite niece.

p.s. congratulations on sneaking up on me almost completely undetected, i trust you will not use this newfound ability for evil. however, when your father comes to visit, I'm sure he'll get a kick out of a demonstration, but you didn't get this idea from me.

Leia's face lit up when her daughter approached her with a handful of flowers. It was a random assortment of wildflowers, but Leia loved them all the same.

"Thank you, Jaina. Did you pick these yourself?"

Leia may be Jaina's mother, but she was also her general. There could be no special treatment for her children.

So if Leia sounded a little harsh and demanding, it was because she had to be.
