hey goose. former roller derby girl huh? very cool. pops was a roller derby guy back in the 40's and 50's. rode with the la thunderbirds :O) I still have his skates and jersey he left me when he passed. That's pretty awesome! I hope to get involved again once I get my knee fixed, but I'm not sure how many expensive, time-consuming hobbies I can juggle with school. I'd strongly urge you to look up the local leagues around your area, it's a total blast to watch, even if you can't skate. You can even watch bouts live-streamed online thanks to websites like Derby New Network.
I wasn't much of a tough cookie before derby, but it certainly helped me break out of my shell and learn to stand up for myself more than I used to. Can't really complain about that.
