pee shivers yo. what's the science behind that? i swear to god no one believes me when i tell em about but it's real.
OH MY GOD YOU GET IT <33
ok I’ve been wondering this since I watched this buzzfeed video. there aren’t any trustworthy sources that I can find but, apparently there are two main hypotheses:
the first is that when you pee, you release a large amount of heat in a short period of time. the body’s response to decreased temperature is to shiver. I don’t really agree with this one (unless I’m not understanding it properly), because losing heat doesn’t mean you decrease body temperature. the rest of your body remains the same temperature, that’s basic thermochem.
the other one says that neurotransmitters like dopamine and acetylcholine are released when you pee, causing you to shiver or shudder. again, not too much info on this so I’m not sure if I’m understanding it correctly. but it doesn’t seem… terribly plausible to me? why is it that holding back pee will also hold back NTs?
the first thing I thought of when I was trying to figure out what the reason is behind pee shivers was the pubococcygeus muscle (or PCC muscle). now, I actually have a terrible foundation for anatomy (my program is stupid like that) but in my psychology of sexuality elective, we were taught that the PCC muscle has functions in 1) peeing, and 2) orgasm. WHOA. strangely, I haven’t seen any evidence or discussion on this, so this is just my speculation. incontinence is linked to a weakened PCC muscle; holding back urine would require contraction of the PCC muscle. the PCC muscle also contracts during orgasm (sometimes in fic you read about the “waves” of contraction that the penetrator can feel?) and apparently a functioning PCC muscle might be necessary for female orgasm. (I believe that’s the premise behind Kegels; stronger PCC muscle –> stronger orgasm.) might have to do with conditioning? i.e. when you have a sudden contraction/relaxation of the PCC muscle, it kinda feels like a mini orgasm?
I was also thinking about bloodflow/arousal. I’ve seen quite a few posts mostly by women, asking why they feel aroused when they have a full bladder. my guess is that the full bladder pushes down on all those awesome reproductive things in the same neighbourhood, maybe simulating what happens in arousal, where bloodflow causes things to swell and squish against each other?
ALL JUST SPECULATION. sorry this was rambly and incoherent! I wish I could ask one of my physiology profs about this but that would feel so awkward LOL. BUT I’M GLAD YOU’RE HERE WITH ME <3
rcmclachlan: do you have any thoughts on this?? my understanding of anatomy is terrible haha!
