The Sheriff Deputies in RCJC continue to abuse their power to commit violent acts against people who are incarcerated. They specifically seem to target individuals who speak out against the conditions of the jail. RCJC is under horrible management in addition to having terrible health services including food and medicine. This is a product of the Virginia Legislation which allows for the jails to maintain their terrible conditions. What can we do? As a community we can start by talking about it. Talk to your family members and friends about what is happening inside Jails. RCJC is not the only one doing this. Educate your peers about why Jails are unnecessary and who they house. Then, mobilize. Encourage legislators to pass laws that support people who are incarcerated.
