They say time heals all wounds.
As memories faded over the years, so did most of the pain. The past remained, but it was something he was instructed against dwelling in. Move on, carry on, look to the future and shape the present, no matter how difficult this task may be.
His fist smashed against the villain’s face, green light illuminating the other’s mask. Izuku pulled his arm back, just in case he needed to strike once more. That fist ended up hanging in the air for a long time, perfectly stationary at first, then subtly quivering. By the time it was full on shaking, tears were glistening in Izuku’s eyes.
“No way...” Heavy incredulity, but accompanied by a hint of joy that simply could not be contained.
A crack had formed on the villain’s mask, splitting it straight down the middle. Emerald eyes, freckles, lips pressed into a thin line - it was like looking into a mirror.
Nineteen...twenty...twenty-one. He counted all the way up to thirty before he started searching. Izuku found everyone within five minutes...all except for his twin. They called out, letting the other know the game was over since it was almost time for dinner. When the younger Midoriya didn’t reappear, all the other kids helped Izuku search until their legs were weak. Darkness gathered and worried parents came seeking. Izuku and his mother went through the entire park many times that night, but they still couldn’t find him. The Midoriya family went down from three people to two, and mom cried every night after she thought Izuku had fallen asleep. It was terrible to see how fast everyone forgot about him...even the police. By the time Izuku was in middle school, one of their old friends remembered him as an only child. So many of them just moved on, but Izuku never could.
“Mikumo, my god-”
Everything about this moment seemed like a trick, but Izuku knew it was real because they’ve always had a special connection. Tears overflowed and spilled, from his eyes down onto the other’s cheeks. He cupped his twin’s face, gently, as if he was scared touching the other too hard would make him disappear again. “It’s me, Izuku.” As if they should ever have trouble recognizing each other. @rcsentful
