How weird is this: words from the road instead of photos?  Written the first night out on my road trip in 2019.  At least I think it was the first night out.

What a strange world 

On the borders of a city

defined by the interstate

and the frontage road

zoned commercial

interwoven with the 

access roads and

car parks --

     some of which do NOT connect --

Bidding the traveler

“Hither” who

occasionally finding a

motor hotel booked

will be informed that the

next one over has rooms

(they’re owned by the same firm).

But I’ll throw in a photo anyway.

Yes, my road weary auto does get highlighted in these last posts.  It’s showing the effects of the highway these days, but what’s the line “It’s not the years, it’s the mileage”?  I suppose, like many things one might say or illustrate, what’s stated or depicted has as much or more to do with the one who speaks or writes than the subject at hand.  It’s quite likely that I’ve photographs of my car in various settings as a way of stating, if only to myself, “I was there!  Look, there’s my car!”

With the passage of time, and what-ever else transpires in life, to look back at the images I’ve collected can sometimes feel as if someone, anyone, else had their camera to hand instead of me.  Adding in a shot or two here and there that include the saloon mark my passage through a landscape, a reminder that I undertook to go somewhere however near or far from home.

At the risk of resting on what-ever laurels I have, with all that’s circulating in the great “out there” these last few months, I’ve not done much besides stay at home.  I’m one of the lucky people who can, but it does mean that I’m not “rambling,” either.  Reading and re-reading some books, watching some movies (many of which I’ve forgotten, which may reflect on my memory or the movie, or both), drinking coffee.  But I have some photos of those past rambles to paw through, so I’ll be tossing some of them up here until such time as I’m out-and-about again.

Here, some images from Meteor Crater.  Currently, there are spotting scopes permanently aimed at significant places, with convenient labels to indicate to the visitor just what’s so special, like the “house size rock,” and the “6′ tall astronaut” figure, both of which help indicate the sheer scale of the hole in the ground (as seen above).  There are also a few monuments to our disposable society, as seen below; call them the “Oh c’mon, people!” installations.

No guarantees that I will avoid “reruns” as I do this, but I’m endeavoring to avoid what’s already been posted.

Yep, still mining some shots from last summer; I took a bunch, so -- yeah!

Anyway, views of Metamora, Indiana and the Whitewater Canal.  If you have any wish to move to a small canal town, Metamora would be a good bet.  It’s tiny, it’s secluded, but it’s less than 60 miles from either Indianapolis or Cincinnati (though travel times would vary wildly depending on local traffic conditions).
