Slay the Knight AU update: Hello, it's been a bit, oops! Sorry gang, I was a bit busy actually attempting to get a job (I've been unsuccessful lolol), but I'm working on chapter 3 and uhhh
Fun fact: I'm not even halfway done :) yeah this chapter will be long, especially since I'm changing how the chapters are structured from here on out. It'll be one Baru per chapter, so an entire route will be in a chapter
Anyways, since it's been a long time, here's a draft of Happily Ever After that I wrote to tide you over:
The Knight plays you a song on the piano, and it is outright heavenly; his fingers fly through the keys with proficiency, weaving a melody like a seamstress weaving a tapestry. The tune is powerful but still elegant, a poignant mix between melancholy and longing, it touches your heart, blesses your ears, and makes your eyes water. But at the end, just at the very finish, the Knight plays a flat note.
He winces, instantly retracting his hands from the keys like they had burned him.
“I-I made a mistake—— but that’s alright! All I have to do is start from the beginning! I’ll get in right, you’ll see, Heroine-tan!”
It only makes sense, if even with a mistake at the end the song was so wonderful to listen to once, then doing it again would be even better, no?
Voice of the Noble: [It was rather touching, even I can admit that I'm eager to hear it again.]
Voice of the Troubled: [I don't really think that's how that works at all. . . Should we really be paying attention to this?]
And so, the Knight plays you the song yet again; his fingers run through the keys with cautious calculation, weaving those same notes again but now with a more professional and clean structure. The tune is pleasant, really, expressing the faintest hint of deeper emotion but not running away from much more than aesthetics, and it makes you smile a little. But at the very end, just at the very finish, the Knight plays two flat notes.
“Again? Ah, it's okay, Heroine-tan! I'll just. . . I'll just do it again, next time it'll be better!”
And so, the Knight plays you the song a third time; his fingers trudge through the keys uncomfortably, he weaves a set of notes that are a bit grating to you at this point. The tune only seems sad, but clearly not in the deliberate way, it's a disappointing experience for all those involved. But at the very end, just at the very finish, the Knight absolutely butchers a set of notes.
“No no no——! Look, don't make such a face, Heroine-tan! I'll. . . I'll fix it. I'll fix everything, just let me do it again, okay? I'll just keep doing it until I get it right, I know I will get it right eventually.”
And so, the Knight plays you the song many more times; his fingers scramble helplessly through the keys, the notes grating your ears so harshly that you could almost feel them bleed. The tune played in such a way that screamed desperation, a cacophony of loud noise that made you want to run away and hide, but there was nothing to run to. The Knight couldn't keep messing up notes anymore, because every single one of them were wrong already, you eventually couldn't distinguish the original song under the noise anymore.
No. . . This. . . This is all wrong.
