So he’s talking about Dan here, and the fact that, while Dan is very useful to him in this moment, during this time, he knows that eventually Dan’ll leave and go on to live a normal life. Free of zombies and presumably rockin gay sex.

But when I first read this (in my defense, very late at night when I was half asleep and sick) I thought that he was referring to Dan as his husband?

Like “ah man, one day, when all of this settles down, Dan and I will get married (or have some kind of civil union or commitment ceremony or something), and he’ll get a job as a general practitioner while I just like, hang out in our basement with dead bodies all day. truly, this is my Somewhere That’s Green.”
