The Importance of a Plan

Business plans are so common they are almost a dime a dozen. A simple Google search for “Business Plan template” yields over 51 million results alone. In the traditional sense, a business plan is a formal statement of business goals, reasons they are attainable, and plans for reaching them. They often include background information about the organization or team attempting to reach those goals (1). While there is nothing wrong with that definition on its face, I would add one statement, “Business plans are a great place to start but not the complete package.”

A poorly designed business structure or a weak strategy is almost impossible to overcome. It can mean the difference between success and failure, or growth and stagnation.
