The sound of frantic knocking on your front door woke you from your peaceful slumber. You looked at the clock to find it flash 3:55am. You groaned and threw the covers off your legs. You slipped your slippers on and headed to the front door. “Do you know what time it is?” You asked. “Y/n, open the door. Please.” Billy’s voice sounded almost broken from behind the door. You quickly unlocked the door and opened the door. You covered your mouth as a gasp left your lips. Billy stood at your doorstep, soaked to the bone, and bleeding. You pulled him into your house and flipped the lights on. “Billy what happened?!” You asked as you went to your kitchen to grab the first aid kid.
This wasn’t something new. Billy would always show up to your place when he and his dad got in fights. The first few times he came over, your first aid was always in your room, but the fact that he was constantly showing up to your house made you put the first aid kid in the cupboard in the kitchen next to the dishwasher. You walked back into the living room to see Billy slowly sink into the couch. However, you knew something else was wrong. The sharp intake of breath, the pained grimace that covered his face when he finally sank into the couch.
“Billy, did he do anything else other than hit you in the face?”
You watched as Billy tensed. You closed your eyes and willed the tears away. You walked over to Billy and straddled his lap. You could feel his hands on your hips as you began to clean the blood from his face. “Oh my gosh Billy. How could he do this to you?” You felt your bottom lip wobble as you began patching up the small cuts on his face. You ran your fingers gently over the bandages that sat on his face before tugging on his shirt. “I saw you wince when you sat down. Please let me see.” You whispered. Billy closed his eyes but slowly nodded his head. He lifted the shirt over his head and when he placed the shirt on the couch he turned back to you.
You just sat there and stared at the wounds. Not only did he have the scars from the fight with the mind flayer; you shivered at the memory; you saw new markings. “Billy, how did you get these?” You asked. Billy took a deep breath. “My father threw a glass bottle at me before I left the house. I knew he was in a bad mood and I told Max to stay with the Byers. I told my father and step mother that she was spending the night with friends and my father didn’t like that. Threw a glass bottom at me. It shattered and when I was recovering from that, he picked up a bigger broken piece and well, used it as a weapon. Cut me up pretty badly. I was lucky I escaped.” Billy said. You felt tears falling down your face but you didn’t care. You grabbed the medical wrap and began putting ointment on the scratches. He watched you in awe as you bandaged him up.
“You are not going back.” You whispered. Billy looked at you with a raised eyebrow. “What?” He asked. You looked at him and pressed your hands to his face. His eyes widened as he stared back at you. “You. Are. Not. Going. Back. I am going to talk with my mother’s friend, Hopper and see if we can get it so Neil gets what he deserves. You and Max are getting out of there. You both are moving in with me.” You said. Billy’s grip on your waist tightened a bit. “You really mean that?” He asked.
You nodded your head. “Of course! My boyfriend and his little sister are not going to be kept in a house where the father is someone that is abusing his kids. That’s not right. You can spend the rest of the night here with me and tomorrow, we will be going to pack up everything you have and we will move you and Max here.” You said leaning forward and laying your head against his chest. His arms wrapped around you tightly. His eyes closed in content as you both stayed in that position. A few minutes later, you sat up. “Billy, lets go sleep on a bed. Sleeping here will only hurt your back and aggravate your wounds.” You said slowly standing up.
Billy stood and rubbed his eyes. He didn’t realize how tired he was as you led him down the hall to your room. He quickly pulled his jacket off, his belt, and shoes before climbing into the bed. He laid on his side and sighed when your scent hit his nose. He was completely asleep when you climbed into the bed with him. You smiled sadly at him before you laid next to him. His arms immediately reached out and wrapped around you and pulled you against his chest. You smiled softly and curled into his chest with your hands pressed against his chest.
{In the Morning}
Billy woke up with a start. He couldn’t feel your warmth anymore and he was scared that something happened to you. That thought went out the door when he could smell chocolate chip pancakes. He carefully got out of bed and got his belt and jacket back on. He slipped his shoes on and walked down the stairs. He peeked into the kitchen to see you dancing to the mix tape that he had made for you. He smiled before quietly sneaking up behind you. He wrapped his arms around your waist and smiled when you yelped. He laughed when you went to smack him with the batter covered spoon.
“Rude.” You said smiling before turning back to the pancakes. “Are you ready to go and get your’s and Max’s things and bring them here?” You asked, turning back around with 3 pancakes made. You placed the plate in front of Billy and smiled. “Yeah. I’m ready to get out of that house for good.” He said. You couldn’t help the giddy feeling that rose in your chest. You both finished up breakfast in silence before you ran back upstairs to get ready. “Let me make a quick phone call and get Hopper over there if things go south.” You said picking up the phone. You asked for Hopper when the person on the other line picked up. “This is Hopper.” You grinned. “Hey Hopper, it's Y/n. I need to ask you a favor. You know Billy Hargrove right?” You heard Hopper chuckle.
“Yes. I know Billy Hargrove. What’s he done now?” He asked. You rolled your eyes. “Hopper, Billy is being abused by his father at home. He came to me last night at like 3am with blood all over his face. He had wounds from a glass bottle his father threw at him. It's only a matter of time before he turns to Max with that same violence. I’m taking Billy back and we are getting his things and Max’s things and taking them back to my house, but I was hoping that you could come with me in case things went sour.” You spilled everything to Hopper. You heard a sharp intake of breath before you heard Hopper curse loudly. “I’ll be at Hargrove's house in ten minutes.” He said and hung up the phone.
You placed the phone back on the wall and closed your eyes. Billy wrapped his arms around you and pulled you against his chest. His head resting on top of your head. “Shall we go? Max might be home now.” Billy said, worry crawling up his skin thinking that Max might be in danger. You nodded your head. “We are taking my truck though. We can hold more things in the back.” You said grabbing your keys, and purse from the table next to the door. Billy followed you out to the truck and climbed into the passenger’s seat. You opened the garage and backed out once you both were buckled up.
Billy anxiously wrung his hands as they pulled down the street his house was on. Almost instantly, you and Billy could hear screaming. Billy panicked and ran for the front door. He ripped his open to find Max on the ground with her arms raised over her head as Neil held a bottle over his head. Billy just stared at the scene in front of him. Susan looking away and not doing anything. Max on the ground, blood falling down the side of her head and blood falling from her mouth. Her cheek was swollen and bruised. Billy snapped his head towards Neil and narrowed his eyes. You raced in after him to see Billy standing in front of Max.
“Max!” You called out and Max immediately snapped her head towards you and carefully stood up and ran to you. She sobbed into your jacket as you held her close. Billy didn’t move from where he was standing. He just stared his father down and growled. “What the hell did you do to my little sister?” He hissed through gritted teeth. Neil rolled his eyes and went to put the bottle down. “I asked you a question, asshole. What the hell did you do to Max.” Billy snapped. Neil’s head snapped towards Billy and there was a dangerous look in his eyes.
“What did you say?” Billy swallowed and tried to hide his fear. Neil walked closer to Billy. You watched as Billy backed away and was instantly pinned to the wall. Max shifted and hid behind you as you held your arms and so they were on either side of her. “I-” A loud smack resounded through the house. You bit your tongue but Max winced behind you. Billy’s eyes widened when he tasted the copper tang of his own blood. Before he could even turn his head to look Neil in the face, his jaw was grabbed harshly and he was forced to look at Neil. You wanted to step in but you felt a hand on your shoulder and turned to see Hopper. “Neil Hargrove. That’s enough. Step away from Billy now.” Hopper hissed.
Neil snapped his head to Hopper and then back to Billy. “You called the cops?!” Neil raised his hand to hit Billy again only Hopper intervened and grabbed Neil’s arm. “Don’t touch him.” Hopper hissed as he grabbed his handcuffs and swiftly put Neil in handcuffs. “Stop by the office when you all have settled at Y/n’s place. I want to get statements from both of you so that we can get, one a restraining order on this man, and his imprisonment.” Hopper said after putting Neil in the cop car. He waved to you and the others and drove down the street with his sirens ringing out. You sighed in relief when the car pulled around the corner.
“Alright, go pack your things.” you said as you followed Max to her room to help her pack up what she wanted. “Go and talk with Billy. He needs you right now.” Max said, smiling up at you. You smiled and walked to Billy’s room. As you entered his room, you saw him facing away from you. His shoulders were shaking and you could hear the faintest sob like noise from Billy. “Baby, what’s gotten you so sad?” You whispered sitting down next to him and placing your hands on his shoulder. You jumped when he suddenly turned around and wrapped his arms around you.
He pulled you against his chest and sobbed freely. “I thought he was gonna kill me right then and there. He had so much anger in his eyes and when he pulled my jaw to make me look at him, I swear I heard something crack.” Billy whimpered into your shoulder. You closed your eyes and cursed Neil in your mind. “You don’t have to worry anymore Billy. You and Max are free. You are coming to live with me now.” You said pressing your lips against his forehead.
You, Max, and Billy finished packing up everything and loading it into your truck. You smiled and dusted your hands off before pressing a kiss to Billy’s lips and climbing into the drivers side. “Come children! Lunch isn’t gonna make itself!” You said making Max laugh and Billy crack a smile. Both him and Max climbed into the truck and smiled when a sudden relief fell over them. A weight was lifted from their shoulders as they realized they would no longer be in that house again. You held your hand out for Billy to take and smiled in content when Billy intertwined his fingers with yours.
Billy and Max had finally finished unpacking and getting their rooms in shape and order, they could hear shuffling downstairs. Billy knew you had some friends coming over but he didn’t expect to see Steve, Nancy, Robin, Eddie, and the little rugrats cheering for him and Max. You walked over to Billy and smiled up at him. “They wanted to come and the forever home you would be living in.” you said, smiling brightly. Billy looked at you confused but watched as Max bounded to her friends and favorite babysitter as you pulled Billy into the kitchen.
“Forever home?”
“Yes Billy. Your forever home. You belong here and your father can’t hurt you anymore.”
Billy pulled you against his chest in a hug before pulling back and leaning down to press his lips against yours. Your arms wrapped around his neck while he wrapped his arms around your waist. He smiled against your lips. “I love you. So damn much.” he whispered against your lips. You giggled before you peaked his lips multiple times.
“Welcome home Billy.”
“It’s good to be home.”
