Soulmate AU for the server collab!
Pairing: Miruko X F!Reader
Honestly you really didn't like to work out late, you were already tired from the day and wanted to go home but...you knew that you would be less stressed and sleep better even if you just got in a thirty minute exercise in.
So you took the train one stop further and hopped off ready to run and lift all your problems away...maybe even punch them out on one of the boxing dummies.
To be honest you had never planned on going to the gym this late, but a big project was due at the end of the week and your boss was really pushing everyone to put their work in. Ugh...you hated crunch time...and you hated it even more when some of your colleagues didn't pull their weight and you had to stay 4 hours late to pick up their slack. At least your gym was in a nice part of town so you never had to worry about any creeps slinking around; even during the later hours.
Sighing you adjust your duffel bag and your work bag, fingers crossed you had remembered to bring your gym shoes...there was no way they'd let you workout in your office shoes.
Lucky for you, your early morning self was together enough to remember the proper footwear and you breathe a sigh of relief as you pull your gear out of your bag when you reached the changing room.
Changing into to your gym clothes you pause to itch at the inside of your wrist...it had been warm and itchy all day, you had hoped that it was just dry skin and not some sort of insect bite; your rather not have some sort of creepy crawly hanging out around your office space or apartment.
Slathering a little hand lotion on the tender spot you grabbed your water bottle and made your way out of the locker room.
Well at least the one nice thing about the gym at night was nobody was really there. You could hear someone on the upper level moving some weights around but that was it...you had the whole place to yourself.
You itch your wrist on the material of your gym shorts, you really hope it isn't a bug bite…
You walk over to treadmills, deciding a short jog would be the best warm up tonight, not too much and not too little. It also meant you didn't have to focus on anything but running, and honestly, just running and listening to your jams was one of your favorite things about the gym.
Turning the treadmill up to an agreeable speed and popping your earbuds in you started your warm up, falling into the mood easily; already feeling more at ease and less stressed.
You scratch at the spot again; it didn't help but you continue to ignore it.
...After twenty more minutes though, it had gone from a tingle to a burn, and it was nearly impossible to ignore it at this point.
Ripping your headphones out and slowing down the treadmill, you get ready to go back into the locker room to get a good look at whatever was going on with your wrist.
"Fucking hell!" You nearly jump out of your skin when you hear a shout followed by the loud clank of weights being dropped.
"...Are you okay?" You ask after a moment and a few more unintelligible curses from the upper level reach your ears. And then silence.
You don't receive a further response; that makes you nervous, what if they really hurt themselves?
Grabbing your water bottle you leave the machine and jog towards the stairs to the upper level, hoping that that person using the weights hadn't dropped a bunch of plates on themselves. Maybe you should get one of the staff members first? No you were already halfway up the stairs, you'd just be wasting time at this point.
The pain in your wrist spiked, your skin feeling like it was burning, but you fight through it as you climb the last step.
It took you a moment to realize who you were staring at; that they were real, in the flesh, in front of you.
Miruko the rabbit hero, No. 5 on the charts was standing by a loaded up barbell, a displeased look on her face as she rubs at her bicep. Her ears flick when you opened your mouth to say something, what, you weren't even sure at this point. She turns, her look of displeasure falling into a neutral one and then her eyes widen.
"Ummmm…" great you didn't even know what to say to her at this point and you feel like a fool for it.
"Looks like we got the same problem." She says finally a smirk growing on her face.
"Wha?" Wow that definitely would impress her.
"Look at your wrist dummy!" She laughs, but her words don't hold any real bite to them...rather, she sounds somewhat excited.
Slowly you look down at your wrist...which wasn't burning in pain anymore...but now, your eyes widen...you can hardly believe it.
There on your wrist was a small golden bunny, shimmering warmly against your skin.
You stammer and gape at it, you had started to believe that you would never find your soulmate...to be honest you had kind of given up, there were so many people in the world after all. But there it was...your mark, glowing on your wrist...and your soulmate…
Your head snaps back up to look at the rabbit hero before you. She grins back and slides her hand away from her bicep; and there glowing against her dark skin is a golden flower...your favorite.
"You're my...we're soul-" you start, barely able to process the information.
"Looks like it." She replies and walks over to you with a confidence you could only dream of processing. "Took you long enough to find me!" She teases.
Unsure of how to respond you blurt out the first thing that pops into your head.
"You're really pretty!" Oh my god...you want to crawl into a hole…
Miruko laughs, but it wasn't cruel...in fact it sounded fond.
"You're pretty too." She looks back over to the weights and then back to you. "You wanna be my spotter? And then maybe afterwards we can grab some grub."
After a moment your brain finally powers back up and for the first time in what felt like forever you responded the way you wanted to.
