“Oh- crap!”
You picked up a piece of stray laundry that had fallen from the stack in your arms. You had washed your clothes, and folded them, so now you were carrying them back to your closet.
Before you could put away even the first shirt, you heard your phone go off. Must be that spammer again, you thought. You set down the stack of laundry and walked over to your buzzing phone. The number wasn’t one you recognized.. yeah, probably a spammer. It had your area code, though, so eh. Might as well pick it up.
“HELLO, (Y/N)!!”
Oh- god, that was impressively loud! You laughed a bit and asked, “Who is this? You have awesome projecting skills.”
“IT IS I, THE MAGNIFICENT SANS!! PAPYRUS’S BROTHER!”
Ohhh! Papyrus had been your friend for a while, now. He was really chill, which you could appreciate. His brother, however, was NOT chill. In fact, he was so energetic that you didn’t need coffee in the mornings whenever you talked to him. It was infectious, quite honestly. You didn’t mind it. Sans was really fun to talk to! You were glad he had called, now you had an excuse to get away from laundry.
“Oh! Hi, Sans! Nice to hear from you.”
“AND YOU AS WELL! ARE YOU FREE TONIGHT?”
Uh.
Were you??
Also, what?????
“Uh- I think so? It’s Saturday, right?”
“CORRECT!”
“Yeah, I’m free. What’s up?”
“ME AND MY BROTHER WOULD LIKE TO BUY YOU DINNER!”
hold the phone. Well, technically you were already holding it, but still.
Buy you dinner?
Okay, not weird at all. Totally. Your eyebrows furrowed slightly, and you responded after a second of silence.
“Uh- no, you really don’t have to do that!”
“BUT WE DO!!! REMEMBER THAT TIME YOU BROUGHT US LUNCH WHEN PAPYRUS WAS SICK? WE OWE YOU!!”
..You could distinctly hear a groan in the background. You snorted a bit, remembering bringing McDonald’s to the bone-brothers’ house. That had been a weird day.
“..Oh, alright. What time?”
“HE’LL-” A shout of protest in the background- “WE’LL PICK YOU UP AT SIX! SOUND OKAY?”
..WHat the hell was going on? It was kinda funny-
You covered your mouth, trying very hard not to laugh.
“Sounds good!”
Oh god, what was gonna happen tonight?
--------------imagine a cool time transition here-------
There’s the car- the adorable minivan that Sans liked to drive in. Honestly. it was probably extremely uncomfortable for Papyrus, but hey, he seemed happy. And it was also the cutest thing ever, so-
You walked to the door of the car, smiling. It’d been a while since you’d talked in person with Sans! The window rolled down, and Papyrus was at the wheel!
...waait, Paps was at the wheel.
Waaait a second.
Paps NEVER drove.
Where was Sans?
“hey, (y/n). hop i-”
“Is Sans okay??”
..Holy shit that sounded so bad. He’s not even here, why are you asking about that, that makes it seem like you don’t care about Paps, oh god, now he’s gonna hate you, dammit-
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry- that sounded really bad- I’m so sorry!”
Paps started talking at the same time as you- “nonono, it’s fine, don’t worry about it-”
You both shut up.
“You go first-”
“you go first-”
AAnd you just said that at the same time as well. You started cracking up, and the tall skeleton sitting in the minivan did the same.
“Ha- oh god, okay. Paps, you first.”
“aight. sans is fine, just realized he had some stuff to do at home.” A patented Papyrus shrug. “he left it just to us tonight.” ...why was his face slightly orange??
You smiled. “I can deal with that, I thought he was sick or something!”
“yeah, he’s fine, honey. no worries!”
You opened the door and sat in the front seat. Thank god for seat warmers-
As you drove off, it was pretty quiet, for once. Paps didn’t say anything the whole drive down. He seemed to be thinking about something...
The car slowed to a stop. You were on a tall hill- no restaurant in sight.
Papyrus reached into the back of the car, pulling out a brown- uh. Culver’s?? Maybe??- and pulled out two burgers, handing one to you with a wink.
“we’ve arrived at our destination, so... time for a patty party.”
You snorted and groaned at the horrible pun. It didn’t even qualify as a pun, sweet Jesus.
“Ughhhh, paps that’s not even a pun!”
“well, that’s the most su-fry-ing thing i’ve heard all day.”
“Neither is that! You get no credit for that.”
You unwrapped your burger and took a bite. Also, you shushed Papyrus, as he had opened his mouth again to let out an unholy pun.
“aw, but-”
You shushed him again. Swallowing, you raised your eyebrows playfully. “No puns while eating, got it?”
He pouted, then took a bit of his own burger. His vision didn’t leave you, however.
After finishing your burger, you turned back to him.
“Now. Puns are allowed. Puns and ONLY puns.”
“aw, so no-”
“DON’T EVEN FINISH THAT THOUGHT.”
You both laughed again. The ride home was more pun-filled and laughter-intensive than quiet, and it was AMAZING. As you pulled up to your home, you smiled and threw a balled up wrapper at the tall skeleton wearing an orange hoodie next to you. “No more puns. None.”
He grinned. “pun-derstandable.”
You laughed fully on that one. “Thanks for today. It was actually really awesome!”
He- agh again- he blushed a creamsicle orange. “y-yeah. anytime, honey.”
