I think no one else was as happy as I was when our book club announced our books of the month for 𝘉𝘶𝘸𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘪𝘬𝘢 (National Language Month). First book is "Patron Saints of Nothing" by Randy Ribay-- I expect brave content as the story promises to explore themes of extra judicial killings, particularly under President Duterte's war on drugs. Second is "Tabi Po" by my husband @mervinmalonzoart-- the book that won him a National Book Award for Graphic Literature. It's a story of a young 𝘢𝘴𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘨 (umbrella term for various shape-shifting evil spirits in Filipino folklore). Moments after his birth inside a balete tree, we join the main character as he explores a world made of flesh, blood and hunger. Just for fun, I also pledge to raffle off a set of Tabi Po postcards to all @bguildph members that will post their reading updates of Tabi Po. No additional rules, I will just check tagged photos of @bguildph page by end of August. Featured bookmark is by @peregrina_ph , one of my favorite Filipino artists 💖🇵🇭 Have a lovely weekend, all!
