"A recent National Endowment for the Arts study found that reading, to more than half of all Americans, isn't something they do outside of school. The survey found that fewer than half of Americans read literature, and the decline in reading rates for people ages eighteen to twenty-four fell fifty-five percent from the last survey, done only twenty years earlier. Americans can read--we have a literacy rate of about ninety-nine percent--it's just that Americans don't like to read. This is a crisis."
