#bookreview #Dunbar by #EdwardStAubyn I enjoy interpretations of Shakespeare's works, and Dunbar is a #KingLear interpretation. It is a quick read, and the thrilling action continues throughout the #book. Because of the length of the book, and because the action covers a few days there is little character development. The greedy robotic people do not change, the people with vacillating loyalties do not change, and the people with empathy do not change. The main character is given time to regret. #bookreview of #SigridNunez #TheFriend from @solidstatedc #HStreetNE #AtlasDistrict #WashingtonDC #readDC I read a write-up that this was a #book about grief, and I agree that we watch the narrator process a major loss. However, near the end the author confronts our perception of what has previously been written. This temporary change of tone gives the reader license to, and expectation of, reviewing what the loss represents. At this point I thought the loss was writing related. Because of this temporary change I think The Friend would make a good #bookclub choice. People may have different ideas on the importance of this part. Also, the importance of names is a theme. To name something is to have dominion according to the narrarator, but to use someone's name is to start a foundation for communication.
