Rereading one of my favorite children’s books, Good Old Archibald by Ethelyn M. Parkinson (1960) about a new kid in town, told from the point of view of one of the kids who is not very welcoming at first. Ethelyn M. Parkinson has an odd sense of humor. I really like the depiction of this large family who are all a little eccentric; one kid cooks odd things on the basement stove, and they have funerals for bugs and small animals that die. And of course there’s a clothing chute!
