My 2020 achievements are few and far between. But I have learnt to knit. This is partly because I run a community knitting group and felt I really ought to learn, but also, it seems if you want to get serious about making garments like hats, socks and jumpers, then knitting is the way forward.
Making this hat and mittens has been quite the learning curve. The hat I started in August and finished in November. The mittens I started in November and finished today. I went wrong so many times. Why must patterns be written in ridiculous code instead of words? So many times, a lot of time and effort would have been saved if only the pattern included a few more words and occasionally a simple instruction.
Nevertheless, here we are. Both patterns from Erika Knight ‘Simple Knitting’ and knitted in West Yorkshire Spinners The Croft Shetland Tweed - colourway ‘Eswik’
I sized up the hat, and knitted on 5mm needles as the last time I knitted this pattern the hat was only fit for my toddler.
