Reposted from @realjnolan Lupe Fiasco explains asking Lyor Cohen & Atlantic Records for his masters 10 years ago, which was declined. At that time, he had no plan on what to do with them and later understood they’d be worthless without having partnerships in place to exploit his work through licensing, sync, etc. or eventually re-selling them like many others have done in the past few years. I appreciate this video because Lupe’s stance shows another side of the conversation of when an artist doesn’t have information at their disposal. Ownership is only as valuable as the work you put in. Which is EXACTLY why I created The Pen Game Portfolio book series for music creators to learn how to make more money without the help of record labels. Many watch my posts for inspiration, but it will only carry you so far!
