Max’s appearances after Advanced Generation
I’ve been interested in Max’s cameos after the Pokémon Advanced Generation series, where he originated from, lately. I thought that Max was originally intended to stay forgotten, since he’s gotten hate from the beginning, but there’s actually more appearances of him than I thought.
His first reappearance was a brief flashback in the Diamond & Pearl episode A Full Course Tag Battle, since May came back for a few episodes.
And her other episodes in the DP series gave Max actual small cameos, watching May on TV in Staging a Heroes’ Welcome and Strategy with a Smile. Those small appearances were great.
After that, he made a reappearance in one of the Japanese DP openings, High Touch, which was neat.
Then he appeared in a flashback in To Thine Own Pokémon Be True, which was focused on Aipom because Dawn’s Ambipom was departing in that episode.
And his last appearance in the Diamond and Pearl series was in the very beginning of a Japanese-exclusive special episode that took place after the series. He was in one of the pictures of Brock’s album, alongside other characters like Ash, Misty, May, and Dawn.
Then he made 2 appearances in Black and White, the first being in the final Japanese ending, which also included every other main character/companion as of 2013 together.
And the second in the final episode of BW, again, alongside the other companions.
And lastly, he appeared alongside the rest of the companions during the end credits of Pokémon: I Choose You back in 2017 (couldn’t add it because I hit the image limit).
This was the final reappearance of one of my favourite characters, being gone from any screen for nearly 2 and a half years, and he has so much potential for an actual comeback, much like what Misty, Brock, May, and Dawn got over the years. He has a Ralts by his side once he becomes a trainer, his newer voice actress retired, leaving Amy Birnbaum open to voice him again, there was even another younger kid character by the name of Bonnie, and it would be so nice to see her meet Max, there are so many opportunities for a perfect return of the know-it-all brother of Coordinator May... but instead, they wanna focus on the bromance of Ash and... Go (whatever the hell his name is) for an entire series for some reason.
I don’t want him to be stuck in the void of forgotten Pokémon anime characters until the end of time. A reappearance of him in Pokémon Journeys would make me so happy. Here’s hoping for his possible return.
