star wars spoilers and unpopular opinions under the cut
please don’t reblog this because i know a lot of people are going to hate me for saying this but like
i really hate all the people getting mad at kylo fans and just stating in general that kylo is/would be a rapist and/or hates women because of the scene where he interrogates rey
i really hate how people are both oversimplifying his character and over-analyzing this scene/their relationship at the same time
the novelization explains this scene a lot better because it’s more detailed and it’s easier to understand when everything’s written out than it is to understand and convey things purely visually in this case, but kylo is in no way, shape, or form abusive towards rey in this scene, in either the novelization or in the film
rey is a captive with information kylo needs. they’re on two opposing sides of a war. he’s not going to be buddy-buddy with her. but you know what he doesn’t do? he doesn’t beat her like they did to poe dameron, he takes off his mask to appear less threatening to her, and he tries reasoning with her rather than getting physical. in the novelization he even undoes her restraints so she doesn’t feel as trapped.
i really hate people equating him saying ‘i can take what i want’ as him implying raping her. he literally means he can invade her mind to take that info if she won’t tell him willingly, which the novelization explains he would have rather her give him the info herself than invade her mind
i just feel that it’s unfair to claim that kylo hates women/is anti-feminist and is a potential rapist is incredibly shitty and outlandish since we don’t know enough about the characters and there’s literally no evidence for you to support those claims
it makes me super uncomfortable that everyone’s crying rape here, like, it’s not rape. please stop.
i honestly feel that shit like this waters down the actual severity of real sexual assault.
also can we stop trying to push real-life morality onto fantasy films? like don’t get me wrong everything is open to scrutiny and criticism, and it should be, i just don’t think this is a valid criticism of this character and it really pisses me off how much it’s pushed in the fandom.
