05. “Just stay with me, please, like this.”

Jyn shuddered, cold even in the humid air. She didn’t know why it was so hard to shake nightmares now. It didn’t use to be.

It didn’t use to be a running tally of all the people who died for her, Mama, Papa, Saw, Akshaya, Hadder, Melshi, Tonc, Sefla, Maddel - Jyn cut herself off. That wouldn’t do.

Cassian shifted in the bed behind her, and rolled over.

“Jyn?”

Jyn turned to face him, and offered up a weak smile. He pushed himself up on an elbow, and he reaches, brushing his hand across her back.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” he asked, frowning.

Jyn lifted a shoulder, then burrowed into Cassian, knocking him back.

“What do you need?” he asked, his hand sifting through her hair. Jyn swallowed hard, and tried to speak around the lump in her throat.

“Just… stay with me, please, like this,” she said in a small voice, and Cassian nodded.

“Of course,” he said, pressing a kiss to her head. “Always.”
