Brett O’Gorman and The Bystander Effect

The Bystander Effect is where when there are a number of people available and action is needed, people who would normally jump to pitch in, stand around waiting for someone else to do it.  It’s nothing against anyone personally, it’s a phenomena that is world-wide. 

I’m watching it happen here to one of our own.  Most of you follow me because you love Dean O’Gorman, or Aidan Turner who is Dean’s friend as well as colleague.  Well, Deano’s kid brother is trying to get his own career off the ground as a comedian.  You’d think that his petition to Ellen DeGeneres would be full by now with all of Dean’s fans on Tumblr.

Not quite. As of 10/24 there are only 210 signatures and Brett has been trying to bribe and beg more.  I have 445 wonderful followers. And I’d like to think that at least 3/4 of you would bother to go over and sign.  And then if you reblog and don’t just pass it by there is the chance for even more signatures. 

We talk about being a community, but if we don’t help each other when it is needed then we are just a bunch of people swapping pictures and exchanging porn.  We should be better than that. 

Brett O’Gorman needs support from fans in order to have any shot at all at breaking into a very hard industry.  Dean got his lucky shot when he was cast as Fili. Take a couple of minutes to sign the petition and help give Brett his chance.
