First look at Sarah Michelle Gellar return as Buffy Summers in 'BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER: NEW SUNNYDALE'
trying to remain open-minded about this whole reboot thing, but tbh I'm really disappointed that they're setting it in modern times... i would have thought the recent success of stranger things would have proved that people really dig the whole artsy 80s horror aesthetic? but apparently not ig. plus they could have put together a really great 80s soundtrack but no :(
Ryan Kiera Armstrong has landed the co-lead opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, Deadline has learned exclusively.
I want Sarah to play Giles!!! Give me Mrs Giles!!!
YES. excuse me while i make a very long post about this
very modern on world issues
fighting abilities! (giles both trained his slayer in skill and weaponry and fought with her so this would be plausible)
good person with a dark past
ROLE MODEL
WHO BUFFY COULD LEARN FROM - AN IDOL
very sarcastic, thinks she’s hilarious (she’s funny damnit) and embarrasses the children with her comments all the time (why do the old people always get to talk, WHY DID THEY BRING HER?? you’re not as hip as you think you are, ms giles!!)
but she does have majestic unicorn hair (i wonder what shampoo she uses? do you think she’d probably do that eyeroll thing if we asked)
but always has kind words for them
and will defend her Slayer and this little band of misfits for as long as she can, however she can
I think a ‘70s period piece about Nikki Wood would be amazing.
agreed! we only know Nikki through the eyes and stories of others. according to the Slayer timeline wiki, she became a slayer at 15. which, i believe, was even a year younger than Buffy. she was (according to again) pregnant during her Cruciamentum - what an even more terrifying experience that would have been! not only worried about surviving but not letting harm come to Robin.
and just the aspect of a Vampire Slayer raising a child under these particular conditions. not only did she keep her son with her, she didn’t hide this life from him - she wanted him protected. and she saved the world.
Nikki Wood is a badass and that would’ve made for a great show.
I agree wholeheartedly with the feeling that we've seen Buffy grow, develop, and mature, and it feels...odd, to say the least, to consider hitting the reset button on her story. As a black person, I'd also love to see either a previously established POC slayer (the story of Nikki Wood's life would be interesting) or a new one and see how their lives pan out. However, realistically, nobody will tune in unless the show and character are named "Buffy." Sweet nostalgia $$ run the show.
for Nikki, yes, that would have been an amazing story (i just answered another ask about her!)
and sadly, I can also agree with your last comments. the resurgence in popularity of the BtVS fandom is what’s been keeping their interest but i’m not sure they’ve really been LOOKING to see what the fans truly want.
