I think this is the closest I've found so far to a 16-bit Ranma 1/2 beat-em-up.. it's the first one for the PC Engine.

It's a side scrolling platfomer action game with martial arts moves.

You even get to play as Ranma 1/2 in girl mode via power up and I think they fight even better in it!

This game is pretty difficult but it's also pretty forgiving because it lets you keep your progress a lot of times and seems to have unlimited continues!

Also, because it's a CD game it also featured real music from the anime and full voice acting for the cut scenes! 🕹️💜🎮😃👍🏻

The games also have some nice artwork in general and era appropriate uncensored touches so this is probably as good as it gets IMHO

It also still has a lot of 1v1 battles but those are used as boss battles here

In a way I kinda wish my most recent ex was still friends with me because she probably would have liked to have seen this game when she visits.. I would have shown it to her... Oh well... 💔🥺🎮

Garō Densetsu Special (Super Nintendo - Takara - 1995 - JPN) Lately, I’ve been looking for SNK’s fighting games adaptations on Super Nintendo. But given the fact that the European versions are slower, I exceptionally am looking for the Japanese versions. Fatal Fury Special is notoriously downgraded in the PAL version, having less memory and missing characters, because… reasons. My favorite combatant is Ty the kickboxer..

This is admittedly a janky and shallow game in hindsight but one should put it into perspective that the fighting genre was in its infancy and so were we as players so it wasn't yet established how fighting games should play and we hardly knew different because it was all button bashing to us! 😅

It also introduced a gritty more adult aesthetic when games were still considered kiddy for the most part that made it stand out from the crowd at the time.

It also benefits for me from being one of the first games I played to completion when I was finally allowed to go to the arcade as s kid!

Mortal Kombat is actually the opposite of this game in that it is a lot more polished and deep than it ever was and even what a lot of people gave it credit for but it benefited from learning from Street Fighter II IMHO

Fighting Vipers 2 looks awesome running in full SD on my Raspberry Pi 4 CRT setup

I especially like the character..."Honey" in this game with her goth maid outfit with wings!! 💜😍🕹️👍🏻
