Receipt Reading- 5 Minutes to Move Me @ Buzzcut
Receipt Reading is a 5 minute long experience for one audience member at a time. I developed it for Buzzcut and did it on Wednesday 23rd April between 13:00 and 21:00 for 29 individual audience members.
I ask each participant to bring with them their wallet/purse and any receipts that they happen to have on them. Train tickets, bus tickets, library notices and holiday insurance print-outs all work as well.
I explain that although the receipts we carry around with us are often just treated as trivial and throwaway they can reveal things about ourselves if we give them the time and attention.
Through a carefully plotted and structured interaction together we examine and reflect upon our receipts and the meanings hidden within them. As we read our receipts to each other the impersonal financial information transforms into a kind of personal poetry of our lives.
