The cemetery was usually quiet when Ginger was there. Sure, there were one or two people, sometimes, but they always steered clear of her, and she ignored them. Sheâd even got a few good shots of people kneeling besides graves, from a distance. But the best subjects were the graves themselves, especially the really old ones, with worn letters and caved-in ground. She was wandering through them with her camera raised when she saw a guy who didnât look much older than her, sitting in front of a headstone, talking to it like it was gonna talk back. She didnât think heâd seen her, so she walked closer.
âHey, kid,â she said, because he looked younger than her, up close. âYou know they wonât talk back, right? Unless youâve got a Ouija board with you?â She and Brigitte had tried that once, beside one of the old graves, but nothing had happened.
