Reasons Why LISA Should Be Played By More People (especially Undertale players)
featuring me tagging the youtubers I REALLY want to watch play this game
CW./ I forgot to mention this games themes are really dark. So if you play, content warnings for suicide, rape, sexual assault, abuse, drug abuse, depression
Okay so, recently my partner and I finished an indie RPG called “LISA”. It was released in 2014 and never gained much attention. It’s a dark humour based RPG that has a similar feeling to Undertale. This feeling is not similar as in style or gameplay, more so that it plays with your emotions and is really just an AMAZING story.Â
After playing such an amazing game, I really wanted to watch other people play it. None of the big youtubers I watch had. @therealjacksepticeye , @markiplier or @danielhowell + @amazingphil all have not played this game, yet have ALL played Undertale. I understand Undertale did come out in 2015 but this game is an RPG that gives you the same, if not stronger emotions about the characters, the story, and the lore behind it all. ON TOP OF THIS, it has only had just over 300,000 people play according to steamspy compared to Undertales 300,000,000. So here are my reasons as to why these big youtubers, other youtubers and just EVERYONE should play it.
Number 1 - Story
The biggest part of this game is story. If you like RPGs, and you like stories, you WILL enjoy this game. Despite the darker themes, this game is very much like Undertale in this sense. You actually get attached to a lot if not all the characters as each have their own flair and every character is important, especially if you play the DLC (Lisa: The Joyful, which is essentially a sequel, but we aren’t gonna talk about this). The characters in general may not be super significant but all have a purpose and link in to the main story. I can’t say much more about the story without spoiling the game but as I’ve said it is a story driven RPG. Just like Undertale is, just like Final Fantasy is.Â
Number 2 - Gameplay
As mentioned, every character is important in their own ways. Some for comedic value, others actually for plot (whether subtle or big). One way characters can be important is through your party, whom you WILL get attached to. You can have up to four party members, however one obviously cannot change (the main character), and these party members help you fight your way through the game all the way up till the ending. Just like Undertale, there are also MULTIPLE ENDINGS. This means you can play the game twice and get two different endings that both add to the lore, hence linking back to the story. You can also get a third ending by upping the difficulty, however I absolutely do NOT recommend this if you actually are going to go and play the game for the first time.
Number 3 - Characters
I swear I’ve said this so much this message but the CHARACTERS. Okay? The characters are just so well written even if it is in the most ridiculous way. Honestly, if you enjoyed Undertale, you will love the characters of this game. Sure there’s no Sans, but you will experience a wide variety of characters that may somehow remind us of our beloved Papyrus and our egotistic Mettaton. Despite my very cheery and excited attitude towards this game, it definitely ISN’T Undertale. Undertales characters are often happy, or presented as a meme. In LISA, the characters are either funny, sad, messed up, or presented as an actual joke. This game should be played as its own, as despite my constant referring to Undertale, the themes are a lot more darker, and a lot more frequent and obvious. There are characters that will cause discomfort, and possibly fear if you are a scaredy cat like me. However, I also believe if I can get through it, a lot of people can. Despite these discomforting and concerning characters, they still will bring tears to your eyes as you unravel what is actually occurring in this world.
Number 4 - Indie Game Developer
This game was made by the developer “Dingaling”. Unlike Toby Fox, Dingaling isn’t a well known developer, and wasn’t well known prior to their game releasing. As we know from Journey, an indie game developed by “Thatgamecompany”, we should not judge indie developers by their names. The story, the plot, the characters, the music. All of these were written and created by Dingaling, however they go by “Widdly 2 Diddly” (W2D) when it comes to producing the soundtrack. The soundtrack is also worth a listen. I mean, if I can’t convince you, W2D’s track “Work Harder” absolutely will. Despite the lack of meme, that is like, ultimate. Anyway, we should want to support Indie creators that do create a special experience. This game will honestly change you, and it is worth the money and time put into it.
Please, if you have read all this, just consider giving it a go. If you don’t like it? FIne, I understand, but again, you will never actually know what you miss out on, unless you TRY
