Making Mosaic's Teddy Wilson Box Set: Behind the Scenes
From Battery Studios in NYC, here’s a brief look as engineer Matt Cavaluzzo and I determine the correct take number from a 16” lacquer of Teddy Wilson piano solos from 1941 that were released on Columbia. A process made simple since the metal part contains the take number in the run-off groove of the disc.

No way was this the original recording I knew and loved. I tried a different “This Diamond Ring” and got the same bogus recording. That’s when I noticed the parentheticals next to some, but not all, of the tracks: “(Re-Recorded Version).” Re-recorded?
