The next chapter in an ongoing partnership with Red Hook Labs. Throughout 2017, a rotating group of CALVIN KLEIN associates volunteered their time serving as panelists, lecturers and mentors to the students of the Labs’ Youth Career Program, culminating in the realization of each student’s final project.

“It’s art to us because everybody skates their own way and everyone paints their own way.” 18 year-old Ivan Espinosa on skating and creativity. A member of the Red Hook Labs Youth Career Program, he filmed and photographed his peers under the mentorship of CALVIN KLEIN associates.

Red Hook Labs presents In Bed by photographer Cass Bird September 13 featuring an bedroom serenade from Feist. The solo show will be: 

“a celebration of the world of Cass Bird, a world that is often semi-clothed, goofy, unwashed, a tangle of attitudes, emotions, silly poses, sideways glances.

For all the smiles and goofiness, there is never a saccharine moment. Bird has a direct and collaborative relationship with her subjects, so their joy is her joy, and both are reflected in the capture. For all the nudity and naughty gestures, there is never a sexual moment. Nudity and intimacy are uncoupled from sexualization in her work, which is both an intuitive and a deliberate choice. There is very little distance between Cass Bird and her subjects–hence the title, In Bed–but that closeness is about boundless sensuality not latent eroticism. It is a deft, delicate line to draw, and one which has come to define her as one of the most important photographers of her generation.”

Art Out: Foam Talent at Red Hook Labs

On Friday, March 30th, Red Hook Labs presented the opening event for Foam Talent, a group exhibition bringing together 24 image makers under 35 years old. This is the first time Foam has brought its selection of Foam Talents to the United States.

The exhibition will be open to the public until April 16th, with an RSVP-only symposium on Saturday, April 1st.  Red Hook Labs 133-135 Imlay Street. Brooklyn, NY 11231
