Greatest Wrestler of All-Time
With the recent retirement of Shawn Michaels there has been a lot of discussion among wrestling fans everywhere who the greatest wrestler of all-time is. I think the greatest “wrestler” is Misawa, the guy has had 15-25 5 star matches while a guy like Benoit or Jericho has had 2 or 3. But to me, being a wrestler is much more than just having great in-ring ability. You have to contain charisma/promos, you have to have longevity (combination of how long you were in a big promotion, and how long you were a main eventer, you have to have drawing power, you have to be able top be a great face, and a great heel. I think these are the 10 greatest wrestlers. Honorable Mention: Chris Benoit, Eddie, Edge, Steamboat, Jericho, Angle, and The Great Khali (Kidding!) 10. The Undertaker One of the best wrestling big men ever. He has been one of the most important wrestlers in the last 15 years. Whether he was the Dead Man, or he was the American Bad Ass. Good on promos, never great. Has longevity in the company. Ok heel, but he has been mostly a face which hurts him. Can draw a crowd, as most know who The Undertaker is. In-ring: 8/10 Charisma/Promos: 7/10 Longevity: 8/10 Heel/Face: 6/10 Drawing Crowd: 7/10 Grand Total: 36/50 9. HHH Does he deserve all the accolades he is getting (The WWE is making him out to be the greatest of all-time)? No. Is he still a great wrestler? Yes. Good in-ring, has even had one 5-star match in my opinion (HHH vs Cactus Jack). Great promos, has longevity, awesome heel/good face, and can draw true wrestling fans. Can’t draw the less then average wrestling fan. In-Ring: 7/10 Charisma/Promo: 8/10 Longevity: 8/10 Heel/Face: 9/10 Drawing Crowd: 6/10 Grand Total: 38/50 8. Andre The Giant So he only has a 35 while the other two have 36 and 38? I gave him bonus points for being an integral part of wrestling during the 70s and 80s. I’ve only seen a handful of Andre matches, and he sucked. He never really spoke so he doesn’t really have great promos. He was the top guy for 20 years, and was loved and hated during his career. He was great at drawing crowds because he was so huge. In-Ring: 4/10 Charisma/Promo: 2/10 Longevity: 10/10 Heel/Face: 10/10 Drawing Crowd: 9/10 Grand Total: 35/50 7. Bret Hart Greatest in-ring technical wrestler of all-time. Could get on the mat with anyone, and have a good match. Decent charisma, and could draw crowds but not to the extent of The Rock or Hogan. I honestly though he would be higher, but I guess not. Still without a doubt one of the greatest of all-time. In-Ring: 10/10 Charisma/Promo: 7/10 Longevity: 9/10 Heel/Face: 9/10 Drawing Crowd: 7/10 Grand Total: 42/50 6. Stone Cold Steve Austin Stone Cold was a huge reason why wrestling was huge during the late 90s. Was decent in-ring, but was more about beating the crap out of someone. He could have been a great in-ring performer, and was when he was Stunning Steve back in his Texas’ days. Charisma was awesome, as well as heel/face. He was only big for about 6 years so that hurt him in the longevity compartment. Everyone knows who Stone Cold Steve Austin is. Austin 3:16 FTW! In-Ring: 7/10 Charisma/Promo: 10/10 Longevity: 7/10 Heel/Face: 10/10 Drawing Crowd: 9/10 Grand Total: 43/50 5. The Rock I’m a huge Rocky mark. I love The Rock. I loved his charisma, and the way he got the fans involved. Just seeing him as a kid was awesome he almost seemed bigger then life to me. He was the best entertainer of all-time, not the greatest all around wrestler though. I decided to have The Rock over Stone Cold Steve Austin because…well…I just like him more! If ya smelll…I’ll stop.In-Ring: 7/10 Charisma/Promo: 10/10 Longevity: 6/10 Heel/Face: 10/10 Drawing Crowd: 10/10 Grand Total: 43/50 4. Sting Great wrestler. Had very good charisma, longevity is off the charts. Could work Heel or Face very well. And a very good drawing crowd. Honestly, he would be higher if he spent some time in the WWE. Because that hurt him as far as drawing crowds. He could be a 9 or a even a 10 in drawing crowds if he went to the WWE. Oh well, still one of the best of all-time. In-Ring: 9/10 Charisma/Promo: 8/10 Longevity: 10/10 Heel/Face: 9/10 Drawing Crowd: 8/10 Grand Total: 44/50 3. Hulk Hogan Somebody should have learned to wrestle! Hogan was top notch everywhere else, except in the ring. Love him or hate him, everywhere else he was great. He revolutionized wrestling in the 80s and really made wrestling what it is today. Really the first guy with huge physique and a huge ego. In-Ring: 5/10 Charisma/Promo: 10/10 Longevity: 10/10 Heel/Face: 10/10 Drawing Crowd: 10/10 Grand Total: 45/50 2. Ric Flair Very good in-ring. He was a little too over the top on promos for my liking. But that was just because he was so passionate about what he was doing. He was on top for a very long time, very good at being a heel and a face. Drawing crowd could be a little higher, but he was below Hogan and co. In-Ring: 9/10 Charisma/Promo: 9/10 Longevity: 10/10 Heel/Face: 10/10 Drawing Crowd: 8/10 Grand Total: 46/50 1. Shawn Michaels Amazing in ring. Wasn’t technical wrestler though, but could. He could wrestle big hosses, or small guys. Just an amazing wrestler. His promos are very underrated. He was on top for a long time as well. Awesome heel back when he was young, and a huge face when he was older. He was a huge reason why people tuned in to watch the WWF in the mid 90s. I will really miss Shawn. The wrestling community really lost one of (In my mind the) greatest of all-time. In-Ring: 10/10 Charisma/Promo: 9/10 Longevity: 10/10 Heel/Face: 10/10 Drawing Crowd: 8/10 Grand Total: 47/50 There will never be the greatest wrestler of all-time because it is just about your own, personal opinion. In my opinion, Shawn Michaels is the greatest off all time. He had it all. He is the best professional wrestler ever because he possesses everything that you need to have to be considered the best. When he was the heel you wanted to see him get his ass kicked. When he was the face you wanted to see him win. If you wanted him to have a great promo he could do it. If you needed him to sell an injury he could do that as well. Who do you think is the greatest wrestler of all-time?
